You guys probably remember the 2002 Subaru WRX I reviewed. The first to make the big leap upon US shores. When I got the opportunity to review the current generation I jumped on it!

Lets say I was pleasantly surprised by the prowess of the new model, compared to this car the 2002 feels horribly outdated in just about every way. But that is as it should be, 13 years between cars and there should be a noticeable technological advantage. The only thing the 2002 has in spades is curb appeal. It is a true classic while this is the new kid on the block.

This example, unlike the 2002, is not stock. The owner got the nameless muffler deletes, a perrin strut tower brace and is running a cobb stage 1 tune. The result? Well... See below!

What is your opinion on the newest generation of WRX’s? I was personally pleasantly surprised by the exhaust note with the muffler deletes!

I want to like this car, but for some reason it seems fake.

It’s probably the absence of the boxer rumble... It still sounds good, but it just doesn’t sound the same. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the better car though.

Why no boxer rumble?

I had my 2015 for 2 years and 18xxx miles. I love the car. It is stock with the STI pack (exhaust, wheels, short throw). The car is a lot of fun to drive. I Autocross it against 1-4 other 15-16 WRXes. They love their cars as well.

That exhaust sounds great.

Equal length headers instead of the old unequal length headers. Because the new engine has a twin scroll turbo it needs equal length headers to take full advantage of that.

I’d get the same exhaust if I were in the market to buy one. It sounds perfect and really isn’t too loud at all!
